Youth Sports Leagues Are Back This Summer in Ypsilanti

Every spring, I start seeing the signs: kids in cleats at Recreation Park, parents setting up camp chairs along the sidelines, and little ones running the wrong direction on the soccer field with huge smiles on their faces.

Ypsilanti Recreation and Parks has a solid lineup of youth sports leagues kicking off this summer, and if you have kids in the area, it’s worth knowing what’s available and getting registered before spots fill up.

For the youngest athletes, we’re talking kids as young as three years old, the START SMART Baseball program is a great entry point. It’s designed to introduce children to the fundamentals of the game in a low-pressure, fun environment. No experience needed. Just kids learning to love the sport.

From there, the progression continues with the Summer Coach Pitch League and Summer Youth Baseball League, giving older players a chance to develop their skills in a competitive but still community-focused setting. Soccer runs in both the spring and fall, with all equipment provided, so families don’t have to worry about showing up with gear.

For families looking for a deeper league experience, Ypsilanti National Little League Baseball and Softball has been a cornerstone of this community for over 65 years. They offer programs in t-ball, coach pitch, baseball, and softball for boys and girls from age three all the way up to eighteen. That’s the kind of program that creates real memories.

What I love about these programs is what they actually represent. Ypsilanti has always been a community that shows up for its kids, and you see that clearly in the investment the Parks and Recreation department makes in giving families affordable, well-organized options every season.

If you’re a family that’s been considering a move to Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, or the surrounding area, this is part of what the community actually looks like on the ground. It’s not just about square footage and school ratings. It’s about where your kids will spend their summers and who they’ll grow up alongside.

Registration for summer leagues is open now. You can visit the Ypsilanti Township Recreation Department online or reach Ypsilanti National Little League at YPSINATLLL.COM for specific program details and sign-up information.

If you have questions about what life looks like in different parts of Southeast Michigan, I’m happy to walk you through it.
