April is one of my favorite times of year in this area. The weather starts turning, people come out of winter mode, and the community really starts showing up. If you live in Van Buren Township or Belleville, or you’re thinking about it, this month is a good reminder of why people love it here.
Here’s a look at what’s going on in April 2026.
Easter Weekend Kickoff
The month gets started with a fun one for families. On Saturday, April 4, the Belleville Central Business Community (CBC) and the Downtown Development Authority are hosting the Flop E Bunny Candy Hunt from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s a free, community-driven event for kids in the area, the kind of thing that makes downtown Belleville feel like home.
The Van Buren Community Center will also be closed on Good Friday, April 3, and Easter Sunday, April 5, so plan accordingly if you use the facility regularly.
Kids and Cops Donut 5K and Belleville Barkfest: April 18
This one is a two-for-one. On Saturday, April 18, you’ve got the Kids and Cops Donut 5K and 1 Mile Fun Walk happening alongside Belleville Barkfest. Whether you’re lacing up your shoes or bringing your dog out for the day, there’s something for everyone. Events like these are a big part of what keeps this community connected.
Third Thursday in the Ville: April 17
Downtown Belleville keeps the momentum going with Third Thursday in the Ville on April 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. Local shops stay open late, popup crafters set up along the street, and it becomes a genuine reason to get out and explore the area. If you haven’t walked through downtown Belleville on a Third Thursday night, it’s worth putting on your calendar.
Live Music at Diamondback Music Hall: April 17
Also on April 17, Doobie: Bat Out of Hell Weekend kicks off at Diamondback Music Hall in Belleville at 7:00 p.m. If you’re a fan of classic rock and live music, this is a solid evening out without having to drive into Detroit.
Citywide Litter Pickup: April 25
Wrapping up the month, the Young Professionals Group is organizing a Citywide Litter Pickup Day on Saturday, April 25. It’s a simple, hands-on way to take pride in the community and connect with neighbors who care about where they live.
Why This Matters If You’re Thinking About a Move
A lot of people ask me what it’s like to live in Van Buren Township or Belleville. My honest answer is that the community calendar tells you more than any listing ever could. When a town consistently shows up for Easter egg hunts, 5Ks, downtown events, and neighborhood cleanups. That tells you something about the people who live there.
If you’ve been thinking about buying or selling in this area, I’m happy to walk you through your options. There’s no pressure, just a straightforward conversation about where things stand and what makes sense for you.
