What’s Happening in Ypsilanti This Summer

One of the things I always tell people when they’re considering a move is that the house is just part of the decision. The neighborhood, the community, the culture. That’s what you actually live in every day.

Ypsilanti Township has a lot going on this summer, and if you haven’t seen what the Recreation & Parks department has lined up, it’s worth a look.

The biggest one on the list is the Ypsi Street Rods 3rd Annual Car Show happening Saturday, June 13 from 10am to 4pm. It’s $5 to get in, and you’re getting music, kids games, food trucks, and crafters alongside some serious classic cars. It’s the kind of event that’s fun for the whole family and a great reason to spend a day out in the community.

If you’ve got a hidden talent, or just want to watch someone else show theirs, the $0 & Beyond Talent Show is on June 26 at 1:30pm right at Ypsilanti Township. Whether you’re a singer, dancer, comedian, or musician, they’re opening the stage up to the community. It’s free and it’s the kind of thing that makes a neighborhood feel like home.

For the athletes and competitors, the Ypsilanti Township Recreation Department is also hosting a Coed Cornhole Tournament on June 21 and a Pickleball Tournament on June 15 at Ford Lake Park. Pickleball is everywhere right now, and it’s great to see it making its way into local parks. Teams are $40 to register for pickleball, and if you’ve got a partner for cornhole, it’s $25 per team.

And if you like to run or just want to get outside with your family, the Ghost Dash “Run the Cause” is on October 5 at Green Oaks Golf Links. It’s free to participate, and proceeds go toward the Art Seidelman Scholarship Fund, a local fund built around giving back to the Ypsilanti Township community.

There’s a reason people who move to this area tend to stay. The community events, the parks, the people. It all adds up. If you’ve been thinking about what it would look like to plant roots in the Ypsilanti area, I’m happy to walk you through your options.
